In today's global society, technology plays an integral role in our everyday lives. Technology dictates how we communicate, connect, develop and is therefore vital to how we learn. As educators we understand that students learn differently. It is therefore incumbent on us to integrate the use of technology in our classrooms as it provides a way to encompass different learning styles. The use of technology aids educators in preparing students for a global environment that is technology dependent by using technology to encourage active student engagement and collaboration. By integrating technology in the classrooms, students become more responsible and proactive about learning as now they are learning via tools that are familiar to them. These tools will promote more interest in learning and allow students to feel 'in control' of their learning environment. The control not only develops confidence in the particular subject area but will encourage creativity and the development of critical thinking skills. This development will change the dynamics of the traditional classroom where the students are dependent on the teacher for information. Students will become independent learners who are facilitated by their teachers. This independence will propel students' readiness for the real world as now they will be able to contribute effectively.
